Danny Butt is a writer, researcher and critic, and Lecturer in the Centre for Cultural Partnerships at the University of Melbourne, where he is also a Research Fellow in the Research Unit in Public Cultures at the University of Melbourne. Beginning his career as a musician, designer, and curator/organiser, he has written, lectured and consulted widely on new media and cultural politics, including work for intergovernmental agencies such as UNESCO, UNDP and ASEAN. He is the editor of the books PLACE: Local Knowledge and New Media Practice (with Jon Bywater and Nova Paul) (Cambridge Scholars Press 2008) and Internet Governance: Asia Pacific Perspectives (Elsevier and UNDP-APDIP 2006). Danny received his Ph.D. from the University of Melbourne with research on the integration of art schools into the university sector, and the implications of artistic research for science-based modes of knowledge. Danny has taught in art, design and media schools for over 20 years and his book Artistic Research in the Future Academy will be published with Intellect in 2017. Danny is a member of the arts collective Local Time , whose recent exhibitions include Sarai Reader 09, Delhi (curated by Raqs Media Collective 2013) and If you were to live here: The 5th Auckland Triennial (curated by Hou Hanru 2013) and the Oceanic Performance Biennale 2015.
