The World Conference on Internet and Regulation was held in Paris under the aegis of UNESCO, highlighting the need for a “trusted Internet”. The event marked the unveiling of a first version of UNESCO’s Principles for the Regulation of Digital Platforms. These principles aim to reconcile the preservation of freedom of expression, access to information and other human rights with the regulation of digital platforms. They provide a framework for the permissible restriction of certain content, in compliance with international human rights law.
The conference provided a dynamic platform for the exchange of ideas and perspectives on these crucial principles. Discussions highlighted the importance of regulating digital platforms while ensuring compliance with international standards. To find out more about this first version of UNESCO’s Principles for the Regulation of Digital Platforms, we recommend viewing the conference “For a Trusted Internet”, which was a highlight of this historic event.
