From October 26 to 30, the ORBICOM 2026 International Conference, held under the theme “Media, Artificial Intelligence, and Democracy,” brought together nearly 200 people in Montreal, including researchers, UNESCO Chair holders, and representatives from institutions and civil society.
Organized as part of Global Media and Information Literacy Week (known as “MIL Week”), this conference provided an opportunity to address the transformations brought about by artificial intelligence and their implications for the media, education, access to information, and democracy. The discussions also highlighted the importance of continuing research and placing young people at the center of these efforts. Despite the diversity of our contexts, the challenges we face are often similar, reminding us of the importance of dialogue and international collaboration.
This conference represents a first step toward concrete action. All presentations will be subject to an in-depth analysis to inform the drafting of recommendations.
We extend our sincere thanks to the entire ORBICOM team and to the members of the organizing committee for their dedication and valuable contributions to making this conference a reality. We also thank the speakers, participants, and our partners, whose contributions enriched the discussions and made this event a success.
