Description and Mandate of the Chair

The UNESCO Chair on Communication of Science and Technology (UCCST) was inaugurated on 16 May 2018 with the signature of a Memorandum of Understanding between Allameh Tabataba’i University and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) at ATU Faculty of Communication Sciences.
Communication of Science and Technology is the basis for establishing and strengthening communications between scientists, professionals, and society in various fields of science and technology, from journalism and media production to science and technology policy-making and organizing the institutional communications in academic institutes. Pursuant to Article 1 of the Memorandum of Understanding, Allameh Tabataba’i University was designated as the host institution for the UNESCO Chair on Communication of Science and Technology.
Dr. Ali Asghar Kia, Dean of the Faculty of Communication Sciences (CS), is the current chairman of the UNESCO Chair on Communication of Science and Technology, at Allameh Tabataba’i University, Tehran, Iran.
The UNESCO Chair on Communication of Science and Technology (UCCST) mainly consists of the following parts:
  • Chair-holder
  • Policy Supreme Council
  • Planning Council
  • Executive Secretary
  • Secretariat
  • Four specialized committees, namely
  • The Research Committee
  • The Teaching Committee
  • The Publication and Information Committee
  • The Communications and International Relations Committee
  • All chair activities are carried out through these specialized committees and under the supervision and approval of the Planning Council.
