Prof. Rainer Rubira-García holds a Phd. Degree from the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos, in Madrid, Spain, with top qualification, cum laude, International Mention and Extraordinary Doctorate Award. Master in Communication and Sociocultural Problems from the same institution. B.A. Degree in Social Communication from the University of Havana, Cuba.

The professor is currently head of the UNESCO Chair in Communication Research at the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos. He is also responsible for research and teaching innovation groups of the highest level. He has been a professor at Fairfield University, Connecticut, USA; Šiauliai State College, Šiauliai, Lithuania; at the Complutense University of Madrid; at the Central University of Ecuador and at the University of Havana, both in undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

The professor has participated in several national and international research projects, also with leading responsibilities. Main advisor of several doctoral theses with international mention and top qualifications. With publications in Web of Science, JCR and Scopus indexed journals such as Convergencia, International Communication Gazette, International Journal of Communication, Global Media and Communication, Ecquid Novi: African Journalism Studies and the European Journal of Women’s Studies, among others.

Member of Orbicom, LASA, ECREA and AE-IC. His research interests include: communication research theories and methodologies, cultural industries, the study of the Internet, gender and communication, communication and culture, communication and education, political communication and international communication.
