Elena Vartanova is Full Professor and Dean at the Faculty of Journalism, Lomonosov Moscow State University.

She is Chair in media theory and economics. Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Education. President of the Russian National Association of Media Researchers (NAMMI). Member of the Presidential Council on the Russian Language. Board member of the Higher Attestation Commission of Russia. Member of ICA, IAMCR, ECREA, EMMA and Euromedia Research Group. Board Member of IMMAA. Editor in chief of “World of Media” academic journal, and others.

Her research focuses on Russian media system, media economics, media theory, and media education in Russia.

Professor Vartanova has published about 300 academic publications, including the recent one Les transformations postsoviétiques des médias et du journalisme russes (Paris: L’Harmattan, 2020).
