
We are pleased to partner with the Canadian Commission for UNESCO (CCUNESCO) to announce the appointment of Ms. Magda Fusaro to the position of Vice-President of CCUNESCO.
She is currently the Secretary General of the ORBICOM network, the UNITWIN network of UNESCO chairs in communication. Previously, she held the UNESCO Chair in Communication and Technology for Development, a position she held from 2007 until her appointment as President of the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM) in 2018.

Magda Fusaro is a professor in the Department of Analytical, Operations, and Information Technology and Secretary General of the ORBICOM Network at the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM).
She holds a PhD in Communication and Information Sciences from the University of Paris XIII, and also holds a Master’s degree in Communication from UQAM as well as a Master’s degree in Communication Science and Technology from the University of Paris XIII. In 2001, she joined her alma mater, where she began a successful career leading her to hold various academic and administrative positions.
Appointed Vice-Rector for Information Systems in 2016, she is recognized as a visionary manager who places the development and use of technology at the service of teaching, research, and creation activities. In November 2017, she was appointed Rector of the Université du Québec à Montréal, a position she held until January 8, 2023. In her role, Ms. Fusaro served on several institutional committees and working groups, also representing UQAM in various inter-university and research organizations. Believing that the internationalization of universities is crucial for the development of research, she also chaired the UNESCO Chairs Network of Canada from 2016 to 2018.
Convinced of the virtuous relationships between the socio-economic and academic environments, Magda Fusaro sits on the Board of Directors of the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie and has been a member of the Executive Committee of the Canadian Commission for UNESCO since July 2024. She has also served on the boards of the Montreal Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce, Montréal International, the Quartier des spectacles Partnership, the Innovation District, and the Bureau de coopération interuniversitaire.
