From September 29 to October 2, 2025, the ORBICOM network held its Annual Conference in Strasbourg, France. The event was hosted by the UNESCO Chair “Journalistic and Media Practices: Between Globalization and Cultural Diversity” at the University of Strasbourg, under the theme CIAREI: Communication, Artificial Intelligence, Remediation, Ethics, and Inclusion.

Three days filled with exchanges, discoveries, and debates brought together more than 250 participants from 28 countries.

Plenary sessions, panels, workshops, and scholarly presentations followed one another at a steady pace, reflecting the diversity of approaches and the richness of the reflections shared. The discussions enabled perspectives from all continents to be confronted and fostered a critical dialogue on contemporary issues in communication, media, and the digital sphere.

Beyond the numbers, it was above all the quality of the exchanges that stood out in this edition. The active participation of researchers, doctoral candidates, and practitioners helped create a collaborative and stimulating space, true to the spirit of ORBICOM.

  • International participation: 28 countries represented, more than 250 registrants.
  • Scientific visibility: all presentations, whether in person or online, will be included in the proceedings of the congress.
  • Dissemination of work: in accordance with the guidelines adopted, the papers presented must be submitted by December 31, 2025, following the standards defined by the research axis coordinators. Some works will also be highlighted through publication in partner scientific journals.
  • A dynamic General Assembly: alongside the conference, ORBICOM’s Annual General Assembly was held on October 2, 2025. The strong turnout reflects the commitment of members. An additional online session is scheduled for October 23, 2025, to continue the discussions and allow everyone to contribute.

Beyond the academic sessions, the conference was punctuated by convivial moments that left a strong impression:

  • a gala evening at the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Strasbourg,
  • a river cruise offering another perspective on the city,
  • a visit to the European Parliament, an enriching and symbolic experience for participants.

These highlights helped strengthen bonds among network members and provided a favorable setting for exchange.

The ORBICOM Secretariat General wishes to extend its most sincere thanks to the UNESCO Chair “Journalistic and Media Practices: Between Globalization and Cultural Diversity” at the University of Strasbourg and its holder, Philippe Viallon, for the quality of the welcome and the professionalism of the organization.

A special tribute is also paid to the organizing team, whose dedication and attention to detail made it possible to create an event that was both rigorous on the scientific level and warm on the human level.

Our thanks also go to all participants, whose commitment and availability made this congress a milestone in the life of the network.

Numerous photos and videos were taken throughout the meeting. They will soon be available online in the “Annual Meetings” section of the ORBICOM website, so that everyone may relive the highlights and share these memories with the community.

See you in 2026 for the next edition, to be held in Montreal, which promises to further broaden dialogue, strengthen ties among ORBICOM members, and introduce the network to new partners.
